What is Mentoring4Poland?

Mentoring4Poland was an initiative aimed at supporting international students studying in Poland in their adaptation to a new academic, social, and professional environment. Initiative was part of the “Support for Advisory Initiatives” program, funded by the National Freedom Institute – Center for Civil Society Development, under the Government Program for Supporting the Development of Advisory Organizations (2023-2033). The program is operated by the “Wiatraki Mazur” Association, the SMK Local Fund Foundation, the Żywiec Development Foundation, and the Science for the Environment Foundation. The patron of this initiative is the association doneWell plus.

The project included a comprehensive mentoring and advisory program designed to help international students find their place in Poland.

What were the assumptions of the program? Mentoring4Poland?

The primary goal of Mentoring4Poland was to assist international students and graduates in developing their careers, enhancing their social and professional competencies, and integrating into the Polish job market. The program focused on providing practical knowledge, building a network of contacts, and strengthening the sense of belonging to the academic and professional community in Poland.

The program ran from August until the end of November 2024 and involved around 30 participants from various countries. It consisted of:

  • Group mentoring sessions
  • Thematic workshops
  • Integration meetings
  • Homework assignments to reinforce learning.

Sessions and workshops were led by experienced mentors, specialists, and experts in labor market policies, residence legalization, and cultural integration.

What were the results of the program?

The program delivered measurable results that significantly impacted the participants’ development:

  • Better understanding of the Polish job market and recruitment procedures,
  • Acquisition of practical skills in CV writing, cover letters, and LinkedIn profile building,
  • Development of soft skills and adaptability in a new environment,
  • Establishment of valuable professional and social connections,
  • Increased self-confidence and psychological support in the adaptation process.

The culmination of the program was an integration meeting held in Wrocław. The event provided an opportunity to summarize the project’s impact, share experiences, and establish new professional and personal connections. Participants had the chance to listen to inspiring stories, take part in discussion panels, and engage in interactive activities.

What did the Mentoring4Poland project contribute to?

Mentoring4Poland contributed to creating an active and supportive community of international students in Poland.
